I appreciate all of the seasons and enjoy them, but nothing gives my whole body and mind the feelings that fall brings with it. It always starts with me as the kids go back to school (i want new notepads and pencils so much), the anticipation of the season. I always want to bring out my cozy clothes early, get the warmer bedding out and really isn't it time for the first woodstove fire of the season? Fall is all about change for me. Embracing my past year and deciding what is going to stick with me into the next. From the change of grades and teachers to jobs and locations, fall has brought me so many changes. I am entering this years season fully embracing my role as a mama, wife, business partner and myself.

And what better way to celebrate the seasonal shift, than a walk in the woods. While they aren't an american showcase, Busey Woods has been there now for seven of my falls, (7, oh my!!). The acorns are here in record numbers, birds are migrating through and I couldn't believe my eyes when leaves were falling and they weren't green! It is almost as if the world knows that this year I needed to embrace changes a little early. And this year I get to see the fall through the eyes of my two(!) boys. Asher is at such a wonderful age for exploring and River loves being in the backpack viewing the world.
A and his collection bags. He had great fun picking up acorns, rocks, walnuts and leaves. He spent the majority of the hike hauling ass along the trails, stopping only to pick up something cool and then place it in his bag. I love collecting fall things to bring in our home as symbols of the season.
A little senior portrait moments to finish the day.
btw, the leaves up on the top photos are some of my favorites to find, leaf skeletons from the year past. I remember on spring in college looking out into my back yard and thinking that there was some netted trash back there. Upon further examination it was just covered in leaf skeletons. Absulutely amazing. I did loads of fun projects with my then boyfriend with these leaves and one is still framed in my grandma's kitchen. You don't get to see them every year, just under the right conditions, and with this rainy summer we are in luck!
