On Friday I dragged the whole family on an afternoon car ride hoping with all hopes that it wouldn't be a disapointing waste of time. For the past 7 months I have looked at Craig's List religiously (for me, which means when I remember) for a wardrobe/cabinet/storage unit for our dining room that I can keep crafty art supplies in, so creating can be back in my daily life. I found one back in November that I though we could refinish and would be beautiful, but that was in the kitchen remodel days and well, we couldn't fit anything else in our house. I looked in Arthur and couldn't find exactly what I wanted and the price tag of a custom piece wasn't to inspiring. Patiently I waited, and it was worth the wait. We borrowed the Dawsey's truck, hauled our kids an hour north of here to Ashkum, met with this dude Dan who had inherited this piece from his grandmother who I believe came by the piece out of a barn and it is residing in my living room after some help moving it from a neighbor. (thanks drew!)
It matches our dining room table and chairs as perfectly as any pine piece could and looks great with the green walls. It is the first 16 inch deep wardrobe I have ever seen listed and I am so happy that it is ours and will be for a lifetime to come.
Oh, and what is that inside? Why yes that is my new sewing machine. See, as I got a used piece of furniture and about a fifth of the price I was thinking I would need to spend, I had a little reserve bond money for this Janome on sale at Sew Sassy, I got to sew with it for the first time today... let's call that my mother's day gift. This sweety has 50 stitches, I can make anything now.
the shelves are filling quickly and A asked me several times today to play with my toys (stuff stored in the wardrobe) we water colored and cut construction paper and glued pom poms to paper. I love our little art closet.
Happy Mom's day to all you out there.

It looks just perfect!! So glad you waited, as it is better than any piece we saw...and has a great story with it! It looks like the wood is Poplar??? Are the sides one solid piece? I love the arrangement of the shelves on the inside, too. I just printed out some photos of the boys for my office walls. Now, the place is aglow! Love and hugs to all, Bubbie
I love the piece...it fits perfectly in that space and in your home. Great job being patient...that is not my style, when I want something I want it NOW!! :)
